Holiday detail
Good Friday
Also known as Biyernes Santo.
Good Friday is a solemn regular holiday remembering the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the central sacrifice of Holy Week.
Quick facts
Meaning and traditions
Good Friday, or Biyernes Santo, commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. It is one of the most solemn days in the Philippine calendar, observed by many families with quiet reflection, prayer, and reduced entertainment or travel activity compared with other holidays.
Traditional observances include the Siete Palabras, processions, Stations of the Cross, fasting, abstinence, and time with family. Because it sits between Maundy Thursday and Black Saturday, Good Friday is also part of the major Holy Week break that many workers plan around months in advance.
Long-weekend note
This holiday creates a 4-day weekend from April 2-5, 2026.
No extra leave day is needed for this break.
